ZAMBIA needs to practice politics that will always put the needs of the poor ahead of any selfish agenda, says Reverend Japhet Ndhlovu.

In his Easter message, Rev Ndhlovu, a former Council of Churches in Zambia secretary general and now based in Kenya, said there was need to think of genuine reconciliation in the country. He said Zambia needed to practice politics that would enhance development and human dignity.

"Jesus Christ's resurrection is truly of great importance in Christianity… This message is about the presence of Jesus Christ in the mundane, the everyday, workaday, ordinary places of human life. We should find Jesus there, and not be surprised when we do," he said.

Rev Ndhlovu said much as people were encountering the risen Lord in this Easter season, he was not confined to cathedrals, churches, chapels, shrines; nor was he restricted to services, meetings, rallies; nor does he keep hours: special days, special times.

He said the message of the resurrection was about life in its totality and not just about that part of life that was labelled religious or spiritual.

Rev Ndhlovu said people were guilty of separating religion from life, and the sacred from the secular.

"This is the Gospel, good news. Jesus lives and may meet us at any place, any time, when it matters most, and where it really hurts; and, through him we, too, may find hope, faith, and forgiveness," he said.

He said as the country celebrates the resurrection of Christ, who reconciled all humanity to himself, there was need to think of the need for genuine reconciliation in the country.

" We all need to live the motto of ‘one Zambia, one nation'. We need to think deeply about the need to remain a unitary state with all our diversity and seriously work on the national agenda for equitable development for all regions of the country," he said.

"The country needs to practice politics which will enhance development and human dignity. We need to practice politics which will always put the needs of the poor ahead of any selfish agenda. Whatever political or economic challenges the country may be facing, we can deal with them through genuine dialogue and living in reconciled diversity. May the resurrection of Christ revive our meaning to live with hope and belief in life before death."
