HEALTH minister Dr Joseph Kasonde says his ministry has already started 'dealing with' the Zambeef results that tested positive two months ago.

In June this year, Dr Kasonde said the government was in the process of taking legal action against Zambeef. He said his ministry tested and confirmed that aromatic aldehyde was present in some batches of the meat that they received.

Asked on Thursday what his ministry was going to do after the Zambeef results, Dr Kasonde said his ministry was "dealing with it".

"We are dealing with it…as a ministry, we did lab tests in Zambia and we also took some samples to South Africa just to confirm. The question we have to ask is who had brought those samples and who was the actual person who confronted those who delivered the beef," he said.

Dr Kasonde said it was not the Ministry of Health that got hold of the samples but local health officers from various councils.

"…and so each one has got which company they caught and have got answers. We have also given them back the results to continue with the prosecutions. They will continue prosecuting all those found wanting…as a ministry, we did not arrest anybody," said Dr Kasonde.
