UNIP president Tilyenji Kaunda has said credit should go to the people of Zambia for the construction of the former presidents' houses. And Tilyenji said UNIP was still following the United Democratic Alliance (UDA) memorandum of understanding (MoU).
In an interview, Tilyenji said credit should go to the tax-payers for the construction of former presidents' houses.
"Credit should go to the people of Zambia because I think they are looking after their presidents well. I give credit to the people of Zambia and thanks to the government for implementing the act," he said And Tilyenji said although UNIP existed as an independent party, it was still tied to the UDA MoU.
"We in UNIP are still following the MoU. If you read that MoU, that's what we are following. UDA was formed with certain aims and objectives and these are the lines we are following," he said.
Asked on the future of UDA, Tilyenji said the decision would be made by the UDA executive committee.
"The future of UDA doesn't depend on fortune tellers but don't forget that just as a family is made of different members so is the UDA," he said.
Asked on whether UNIP would contest the Kapoche Constituency by-elections under the umbrella of UDA or go it alone, Tilyenji said he was still awaiting a report from the provincial executive committee.
He, however, said UNIP was preparing for future eventualities as a party and not as UDA. And Tilyengi said the commitment by the MMD to fight corruption had lapsed.
He said any government should adhere to zero tolerance to corruption and put in place stringent measures to curb it.
