FIRST Infantry Brigade Commander Brigadier General Ezron Mwila yesterday urged army officers to exemplify the highest traditions and values of the armed forces.
During the medals investiture parade, Brig Gen Mwila said the Zambia Army had been involved in many liberation wars, local operations and campaigns including various United Nations peacekeeping missions around the world.

Brig Gen Mwila noted that the army officers had performed with great honour and distinction throughout their service.

“Whenever they have served, our various men and women have performed with great honour and distinction. It is therefore important for us to find time to bestow medals to those officers, men and women who have excelled in their various assignments,” he said.

Brig Gen Mwila urged the recipients of the medals to feel proud for their achievements.

Brig Gen Mwila said the medals would serve as a constant reminder to the army officers, so that they could continue working hard.

“I also wish to remind you that the medals you are receiving are not just there to embellish or decorate your uniform, but they are there to serve as a constant reminder to you to continue to aim higher,” he said.

Brig Gen Mwila also urged the army officers to display generosity to the needy in the society.

“In all the 365 days we have in a year, ask yourselves how many you have assisted in the society? Has any of the people come to you for any help?” asked Brig Gen Mwila.

And opening the Arakan Barracks Hospital Maternity and VIP ward yesterday, Army Commander General Isaac Chisuzi said the construction of the wards would expand the horizon of medical services.

“This gesture will add value to health care at Arakan Camp Hospital. These initiatives shall not be exclusive to Arakan Camp Hospital but will extend to all other units as well as to the civilian community,”

Gen Chisuzi was optimistic that the services that would be provided shall be far reaching and alleviate health problems associated with maternal health complications

“I implore all officers men and women of Arakan to look after the infrastructure and equipment so that quality health is attained,” said Gen Chisuzi.
